Error: Failed to Open Input Device

Bonjour,
I'm looking for some help resolving the following issue: On opening Spectralissime or selecting any WDM input device an error message pop's up.
Error
---------------------------
Failed to Open Input Device
pAudioClient->Initialize return error -2147024891 (0x80070005)
On selecting a MME input device the error is different:

Failed to Open Input Device
Function waveInOpen failed.
Undefined external error.
Please note I'm using a 'Windows N' edition (without Windows Media Player): Windows 10 Pro N [Version 10.0.17763.195] with latest patch/updates.
However I have added the Media Feature Pack providing the media extensions. Other audio related apps function normally.
ASUS motherboard with Realtek sound card. Added an external USB SoundBlaster SB1560, but same error
Tried remove - reboot - reinstall - reboot.
