Intel SST WDM driver issues

First off, I'm a lighting guy, sound is not my specialty, but I do know a bit about it.
I've basically been using a small windows tablet as a music player, and the drivers lack an EQ, so anything that's bass heavy rattles my powered speakers which also has no EQ.
Tried installing all sorts of programs to do it (equalizer APO being the most recommended one) and couldn't get anything to work, until I was told about voice meeter.
Damn funky program, I must say!
BUT I've got two problems.
Windows 10, using groove to play music.
Firstly, I cannot get any output if I pick the Intel SST audio driver (WDM). Everything is set to default.
It works great if I set it to output to Intel SST audio driver (MME), BUT if the screen turns off, the sound turns off.
Before installing voice meeter, the normal output was the WDM driver, and it would play all day with the screen turned off.
If anyone has any clues on my dilemma, I would be eternally grateful. Seriously, there might even be tears of joy.
