Voicemeeter Potato Crackling,distorted sound

Post by battlestrong »

Hello

I have a problem with voicemeeter from switching to voicemeeter potato to fully use 3 outputs for my recording(OBS)/streaming(OBS) and highlights(shadowplay) it does this crackling sound source 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4RijfT ... e=youtu.be
in output B1 and B2, while streaming through B2 I haven't encountered any issues what so ever source 2: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/393592017

My voicemeeter setup: http://prntscr.com/mynocs
My settings: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WibvHi ... sp=sharing
http://prntscr.com/mynygv
http://prntscr.com/mynyr0
http://prntscr.com/mynyub
Hardware out A1 are my headphones HyperX Cloud 1 A2 is my TV
Everything is selected as MME

The source of the problem:
Interestingly I was recording Aux3 in OBS and in shadowplay at the same time.
Source OBS https://youtu.be/ONOeF5SucP0
Source Shadowplay https://youtu.be/icnZTAzZMlo
:? So now I was thinking that the problem must be in shadowplay, but that doesn't explain the crackling sound on discord. BTW I can't hear the crackling sound it is only in outputs B1 & B3.

My troubleshooting so far:
I have tried to change my sound bitrate in windows http://prntscr.com/mynqfi in all of my devices from 44kh 16bit to 24bit 48kz, I also tried checking and unchecking Exclusive mode in all of my devices http://prntscr.com/mynqtn, tried to reinstall voicemeeter and change buffering and engine mode and also preferred SampleRate, but nothing seemed to work. A temporary fix was to reinstall or change Realtek drivers.

Maybe here is the source of the problem, but I don't know how to change 44hz to 48hz http://prntscr.com/mynl9l

I have no idea what to do what so ever at this point.

If anybody could help me I would be happy.

Kind regards battlestrong

in case of problem you must strictly follow recommendation there:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=451

your ouptut A1 device must be a physical device, as stable as possible (because defining the master stream/clock).
the Engine mode SWIFT is experimetnal and must not be used in case of problem.

I did try to follow those steps, but I managed only to fix WDM issue cause one of my playback devices didn't have Exclusive mode checked, switching between Swift mode and Normal mode doesn't seem to make a difference. My main problem is with my outputs B1 & B3, interestingly B2 work's fine. Buffer sizes aren't the issue, because I can't hear any crackling sounds in my headphones (A1) what so ever, even when I listen through another device. The crackling sound are only in outputs.

I tried switching my headphones, but that didn't work. I will try it one more time and I will also try to change my output setup (like change B1 with B2 and that stuff) and I will be back shortly.

So I went with this desktop sound seems to be fine no crackling sound what so ever http://prntscr.com/n1e8ic.

Well in OBS there is no problem, but in shadowplay is, BUT that still does not explain crackling sound that my teammates hear through discord (maybe is it fixed now IDK). But now I know now, that the problem is in shadowplay...

Alright nwm problem still remains, Discord and shadowplay crackling, obs work fine...

it is far less sensible tho

How can I check if my A1 device work's well? Should I switch headsets?

your A1 device is stable when the sound is stable on this device when you listen something.

if you problem is located on virtual output connections to Discord or Shadow play... this is possibly because the VAIO's buffering is not big enough for theses application (using too big audio buffer).

One possible solution should be to increase VAIO's internal MAX Latency to 16384 for example
(by the Virtual I/O Control Panel installed with Voicemeeter - REBOOT after). and set the latency to 16384 too (always by the Virtual I/O Control Panel application).

Then check if it solve your problem.

So I increased Max latency to 16384 as you said it helped a bit, the crackling is still there, but not as much as before.

I also tried it with 32768, but its the same.

32768 is above the DMA size (so we are sure to have no buffer size problem there),
so if the problem remains, it means it is located somewhere else.

In your video, the discontinued stream is located in your capture only ?
or you can live monitor it in your output A1 device ?

do you have some options regarding device in your different capture application ?

do you have audio device conflict ? it means you are using the same audio device point in several applications ?

Yes the problem is located only in outputs.
I can't live monitor it in my A1 even when I run it thought voicemeeter http://prntscr.com/n25hoi

The reason I use OBS together with shadowplay is, that I want to be able to stream in 720P 30fps and have my highlights in 1080P 60 fps. On OBS there is also an option replay buffer, but I would have to downgrade to 1080P 30 fps and it would put much more load on to my system. So that's the reason. I had a similar setup before when potato wasn't even out yet. I had B1 for my microphone and B2 for my discord and microphone combined (B2 was for shadowplay) and then in OBS I would combine all the sounds together, but I would not have the options to mute, increase or decrease certain devices and it would be just a mess, because for example I heard my game differently than the stream.

I don't think that's the case http://prntscr.com/n25lgg http://prntscr.com/n25lim , but I don't know if I checked it correctly.
