VAIO / VB-CABLE Installation Checking

Post by Vincent Burel »

Voicemeeter Package will include a new diagnostic tool to check if the Audio Drivers are well installed (MARCH 2021 update)
this application is installed with last Voicemeeter and can also be downloaded directly there:
https://download.vb-audio.com/Download_ ... eCheck.zip

This diagnostic tool detects errors by reading driver information in different registry keys and check their consistency.
If the gathered information is not correct, it usually means that there has been a problem in the driver installation and Windows has possibly merged some driver together, that could produce different unexpected and unexplainable audio problem.

Just run it and read the CONCLUSION at the end of the log.

CONCLUSION: OK (nothing bad detected)
if the VB-Audio Device Cheker is detecting error, it will invite you to re-install audio drivers:
(except if the error is just a bad version number: the VB-Audo Virtual Driver is not updated, but can work correct anyway).

Operating System: WIN 10 64Bits Build: 19042
CONCLUSION: 6 error detected (You may consider re-installing audio drivers)
In this example above, the VB-CABLE is not correctly installed (error coming with Windows10 20H2 update), so you may
- de-install it + REBOOT
- run again this Device Installation Checker to see if there is not another audio driver to de-install
- REBOOT after each de-installation and run this DeviceChecker app. The critical point is to check there is nothing remaining before re-installing it. SEE NEXT MESSAGE TO GET DETAILED PROCEDURE
- Then re-install the audio driver + REBOOT
- run again this Device Installation Checker to see if installation is ok and if there is no new error.

MANUAL DE-INSTALLATION
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
In some cases, audio driver can be bad installed or partially de-installed and prevent to have an audio system running correctly.

Before re-installing our VB-CABLE or Voicemeeter, it's important to check that the related audio drivers are correctly removed from the system, in the Windows Control Panel / Device Manager:
DeviceManagerAudioDriverConsistency.gif
DeviceManagerAudioDriverConsistency.gif (38.49 KiB) Viewed 280034 times
if you find some part of it in the Device Manager, you may right click on it (to get contextual menu) to de-install it manually, by the windows procedure.
Start by the Sound Controllers (and reboot after)... then check the Audio I/O and possibly remove them by the same way (right click on it and deinstall device).

After a last REBOOT (PC restart) if the Device manager shows nothing else, you can re-install our VB-CABLE or Voicemeeter (and don't forget to REBOOT your computer after).

Are VB-Audio Virtual Devices Well Installed ?

Post by Vincent Burel »

Recommeded re-installation step by step:
1- unplug all USB audio device + REBOOT.
2- de-install VB-CABLE one by one + REBOOT
3- de-install Voicemeeter + REBOOT
4- check your remaining audio devices are working ok.
5- check there is no presence of our virtual audio driver in Windows Device Manager (in both sections: multimedia controller and audio input output).

THIS IS THE CRITICAL POINT: you may find no reference to Voicemeeter (or VB-CABLE) in Windows Device Manager
(nor in Multimedia controller, nor in audio i/o section).

6- re-install VB-CABLE and Voicemeeter one by one , REBOOT after each operation, check your device list in Windows Sound Dialog box.
7- when all is re-installed, re-plug your USB audio device. check again your default playback and recording device
8- Run Voicemeeter and check systray option. Audio should work again correctly.

Anyway your VB-CABLE or Voicemeeter VAIO's must appear like on the picture below for Playback and Recording Devices. Otherwise you should re-install them correctly.

Missing input or output device ?

even after re-installation it is missign an input pin or an output pin?

SOLUTION: Check the Enable / Disable Status of your audio device in the sound control center.

The original post from Jan. 2019 says that this tool will be included with Voicemeeter. I have downloaded and tested Voicemeeter, VM Banana and VM Potato, as well as Virtual Audio Cable and Hi-FI Cable/ASIO Bridge. I have also installed and tested MT32SPLite.

I have not seen this tool until I found it here. O_o

Perhaps it was forgotten? Perhaps it is old and deprecated?

Anyway, I downloaded it and it worked. It found a problem with VB-Audio Virtual Cable, which I uninstalled/reinstalled and now the tool shows no problem.

I tried again today to uninstall / install per instructions and the same audio glitch and visual glitch occur. I think it's Windows just being corrupted somewhere with that recent update. I have the latest software versions.

you may de-install Voicemeeter and VB-CABLE... +REBOOT
then finish to de-install them manually in the Device Manager as explained in first message... +REBOOT

then install them step by step. with a REBOOT and checking after each install.

That's what I've done, twice.
The only difference is when I uninstall VB-CABLEs, they are no longer in the Device Manager so there's nothing to remove there.
