Using Matrix with Cakewalk DAW

Post by CampbellR »

I wanted to use Matrix with my existing Cakewalk DAW and discovered that with the standard Matrix install, Cakewalk refused to open.
With help from the Cakewalk forum, it has been found that Cakewalk has a limitation of 276 available ASIO devices (real or virtual) beyond which it will not open. This is not the number of devices in use but rather the number of devices it can see.

As a quick fix, in my PC registry, I removed three of the VB-Matrix ASIO entries, leaving only the VB-Matrix VASIO-128. Along with my MOTU ASIO drivers, I was now under the 276 device limit and Cakewalk will now load with Matrix installed.

There is a live thread on this at https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php? ... io-matrix/ and I'll check to see if the Cakewalk (soon to become Sonar) development guys are will to have a look at fixing this restriction.

yes, it's a strange limitation from Cakewalk. And it 's always strange to see an application not running, just because a particular driver is present. They could simply secure their enumeration process. Also they must be aware that today some audio board are proposing 256, 512, or more I/O (through audio network for example). So this should not be a problem for such application to run on a PC having all this I/O resources available.

We also have a similar problem with Matrix Coconut and Vegas Suite that does not like our 512 I/O Virtual ASIO driver (installed with Coconut).

Hope they also will fix the problem soon.
