High CPU load when sound device is not present

I noticed Voicemeeter has a CPU load of about 17% when a sound device set as "Hardware Out" is not present anymore.
I am launching Voicemeeter at System Startup, using Win10 1709 on a Thinkpad T460p.
When I switch back to an available sound device CPU load instantly decreases again.
Is it possible to tell Voicemeeter to automatically switch to another device if it doesn't recognize the one that is selected?
