I seem to recall this started with one of the windows updates, but I'm not certain.
Anyway running windows 10 64 bit.
The recording device of vbcable keeps setting the mute on.
Easy enough to go into sounds-recording-properties-levels and turn the mute off again.
But it is annoying, especially when I forget to do it.

Only reason I could find with a google search was malware.
Didn't sounds like a very likely explanation, anyway I've run a couple of malware scans with malwarebytes and avg which shows nothing.
I don't have any trouble with other devices getting muted.

I've tried reinstalling virtual cable but same result.

FWIW I'm running a yeti microphone into reaper, and running the output of reaper into vbcable using WASAPI

I'm at a loss what I can do to fix this.

MUTE and VOLUME control are not imlemented in our VB-CABLE.
it's up to windows to apply it or not.

I guess it's a windows problem then (which I kinda suspected anyway), but since it's only happening with the vbcable device I thought maybe someone on these forums might be able to shed some light on whats happening.

For anyone having this problem, I'm posting how I got it fixed.
I used the windows diagnostic tool. This scanned my system and decided that I had some bad settings in my devices and "corrected" them. I use quotes because I saw no difference through the UI, however it did stop windows continually setting mute.
