Sound issue with surround sound

OK, I have run into an issue that I need some help to hopefully solve.
I run VM Potato (same issue happens in Banana), set it as the Windows default sound output, and direct the sounds to my headset ouptut which is a headset with 7.1 virtual surround. I am able to hear all 8 channels through my headset, all of them in the correct "direction". However whenever I hear anything on the "surround channels", the volume level of the first two channels drops noticeably. This typically means my music levels lowers/raises randomly when I play games due to the surround effect present in game. Whenever the sound/noise on the surround channel stops, the sound level of the 2 "main" channels come back to the original volume in 7-8 seconds. It happens with all sounds coming through on those channels, but it's typically with music I find it the most disturbing as music is a continuous thing. Happens both with playing from youtube, spotify, winamp, etc.
Is this a common/known issue that anyone might know a possible solution to?
For trouble shooting I made these screen shots of what I think might be relevant program settings, if anyone can find any clues to something I've done wrong please let me know:

I can't change from 16 bit since the headset software enforces that (Corsair Void Pro RGB) and without the software they won't work with surround at all. But using the headset directly as windows output it works perfectly fine.
If anyone has any knowledge, ideas, or simply guesses I would love to hear them cause at this stage I'm at a loss for what to try/check next.
Thank you
