What is the "Pipe size"?

In the latency manual on page 5, it says, "Note: for VB-CABLE, you can decrease the Internal SR to increase effective pipe size. "

What is the pipe size, and when would I want to change this setting? (For instance, I'm running all my devices at 48000 at the moment...)

"Pipe size" is an image to represent the internal latency.
