Fiddling with multiple 8 channels setups...

Hello from a new user, with his very first question:

Let's say one uses eight channels for output with the A1-3 out buses where A1-3 also is fed by eight separate channels, is there an easy way to make a mono signal with two of the channels from the very same channels? In other words, I want to transform what originally looks like 1₁ 2₂ 3₃ 4₄ 5₅ 6₆ 7₇ 8₈ into 1₁₊₂ 2₁₊₂ 3₃ 4₄ 5₅ 6₆ 7₇ 8₈.

After writing the first post it struck me that the matrix is, of course, the tool to use, it's made for things like this. But what gain should I use? 70% + 70%?
