Voicemeeter install issue with W11 25H2

Post by g0ofe »

Hi all,

I recently reinstalled Windows 11 25H2 on new media following the death of my previous one.

Unfortunately, I am getting this error:

Image

The issue seems to be W11 not accepting the extraction of the files to a folder, despite in me setting the right permissions etc. It seems W11 25H2 is even more over-fussy with stuff than previous versions.

I tried extracting the install files from the .exe with 7Zip without luck.

Is there Zip file I can use, where I can place the extracted files to a folder of my choice and install from there, please?

no, this is usually a simple problem of file access right.

The installer is willing to replace some file (DLL) always in use by other applications.
for example Voicemeeter Remote API can be in use by a running application, so the related dll cannot be replaced by the installer.
This can also be a virtual ASIO driver currently in use by an audio application, so the related dll cannot be replaced by the installer.

Simply shut down all applications possibly using our Voicemeeter DLL, and run the installer again.

Ok, so I tried installing right after a reboot before starting anything else... still the same issue.

In fact, it was the first install I tried to do after the installation of Windows was completed.... so I don't think another running application is the issue.

I have done a number of installs of Voicemeeter on Windows, this is the first time I've ever encountered this issue.

Would the issue you describe above happen even before the install process itself starts? I ever get as far as being asked where I want to install it, soi surely any dll files wouldn't have gone as far as being replaced... or are the install files not placed in a temporary folder first?.....

you should take a look in system tray, there is surely an application using our DLL (e.g. Steamdeck, TouchOSC...).

ok. What DLL am I looking for that's in use??

Can you also tell me, when the installer runs and unpacks the files (and before the actual install starts), in which folder are these files placed? it's during this process that the installer stops.

simply go in C:\program files (x86)\ VB \ Voicemeeter and check what dll are remaining in this folder.

Then remove them.
