Multichannel VAIO and VLC

Post by output »

I recently encounterered VB Matrix and it seems to be able solve all my audio related concurrency problems.
I installed and configured it, but unfortunately ran into some issue

I use a PC (Windows 11) with only one physical audio interface (Arturia Audiofuse 16RIG)

For video editing and playback I use 5.0 audio, will use a VAIO device in Windows for playback.
Initially during setup I mapped only the front speakers to VIAO channel 1 and 2

When selecting the 2ch virtual device in Windows everything works.

But when selecting a virtual device with more than 2 channels:
  • Windows soundtest works
  • Audio from browser works
  • VLC remains silent (does work when Windows is configured for 2ch device)
I assume that for some reason VLC does not open the multichannel device.

Any solution/workaround for this ?

Thanks in advance,
Marcel

no VLC should be able to use 5.1 or 7.1 audio device, but could you post some screenshot of your different configuration dialog box ?
do you have configured VAIO input into 5.1 or 7.1 channel ?

Thanks for your reply.

I was triggered by your remark: "do you have configured VAIO input into 5.1 or 7.1 channel"
I tested initially with only front speakers and consequently only configured for 4ch audio. It turned out, when configuring for 6ch it does work as expected. VLC does just not open a 4ch sound device.

Problem solved, decided to buy a license :)
