Upgraded Voicemeeter to Banana, now UMC inputs show in Red

I've been using VoiceMeeter with my Behringer UMC404HD interface for about a year now, worked great, but I wanted the extra channel of Banana to support some additional devices. I uninstalled VoiceMeeter then installed Banana (with reboots in between and afterwards, of course).

Everything works great except when I select either of my UMC devices (IN 1-2 or IN 3-4) for any of the Hardware Input channels, it shows the device in White, then changes to Red after a couple of seconds, and those channels don't work. If I shut down Banana, then choose either of those devices as my Windows Recording device, or choose one from an app, like Audacity, those input devices work fine - I get good sound as-expected.

Other USB sound devices work fine with Banana, and routing Banana's output to the UMC output devices works fine as well.

What could I be overlooking or doing wrong?

More information: After messing around with things, I found that if I route the main Hardware Out to a different device, then the UMC Inputs work fine. There seems to be a problem with using both the UMC Inputs and Outputs at the same time. I had Voicemeeter configured that way for about the last year, and never had any problems with it. The UMC is a 4-input/4-output device, with both inputs and outputs paired. If I choose either Output 1-2 or Output 3-4 for Hardware Out, then selecting either Input 1-2 or Input-3-4 for any of the Hardware Inputs, the Input device changes to Red and doesn't work. Choosing any other audio device for Hardware Out allows the Inputs to work. Choosing the UMC for Hardware Out works for any Hardware Input EXCEPT the UMC devices.

Clearly I'm missing something, I just don't know what.

Fixing my own problem here. Hopefully this will help someone else in the future.
1) I found that by going to the Windows properties for each sound device and un-checking "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device", I was able to use both the Output and Input devices simultaneously.
2) Probably the correct (and better) fix was a "duh" moment. On the Hardware Output selection, waaaaaay down at the bottom was this cool ASIO: UMC Asio driver selection, and that works even with the "Exclusive Control" boxes set.

I vaguely recall running into this with VoiceMeeter when I first started using it, but totally forgot about it.

Can anyone confirm that solution 2 is the correct one?

if you have an ASIO driver for your device, you can select it as output A1
and use the ASIO patch to route any input channels to Voicemeeter hardware inputs, as it is explained in this video tutorial:

Thanks! That helps a LOT! I had never really understood those channel assignments in the System Settings/Options, but now I do, and have mine configured properly. No more "Red" input devices!
