2.2 System with 2 DAC

Post by Nator »

Hello everybody,
i want to realize a 2.2 system ("normal" Stereo Speaker with 2 individual Subwoofers) crossed over with EAPO.
A more channel dac would be the choice, but since those are quite expensive or are those "pro-audio interfaces". I sadly have some experience with those interfaces and they always this windows startup pop when the amp is switched on. Since i can not always guarantee that the amp is switched on after the pc i would like to avoid devices which pop.
New plan:
2 DAC (probably Topping D10 or E30). 1 DAC for the stereos and 1 for the subs. Crossover and convolution should be done with EAPO. Which of the VB Audio Software would be the best for this setup? Maybe with the option to enlarge to full active.
My concern is still the quality and timing. Will there be any quality loss whatsoever using voicemeeter etc.?
Will there be a variable time shift between the two devices? If its a constant time offset it will be no problem since i will measure the whole setup, but if the time offset is not constant it will be a problem. Even a little variation should be avoided since the phase shift would be noticeable in the frequency response.
And if someone did this: do you have an updated guide for me?

Hi everybody. Sadly i got no answer yet so i startet to measure a little.
I have a Scarlett 2i4 and a crap Behringer DAC. I did a loopback on the Scarlett for one channel, the other input goes to the behringer out.
I recorded those two channels in Reaper. I let some music ran for about an hour, then i stopped and checked the delay at several point. Was always about 40ms.
After that i adjusted the delay of the Behringer in Voicemeeter Banana to 40,1 ms. Then i stopped and started the music some times, always fitted pretty nicely.
Does someone have an idea what more to measure?

UDAPTE:
measured the same after some restarts: The offset between the two channels varies up to 25ms. So for my choice two parallel DACs for a 2.2 configuration is not working.
Or does someone has an idea how to automatically compesate it?

2x DAC means 2x Clock so you cannot expect a strict synchronization.
you can use monitoring delay in voicemeeter system settings to try to synchronize 2x BUS ,
then reduce your 25ms variation by 10 or 5 ms drifting max.
