Virtual Cable Spotify glitch on start up

My issue is similar to the one described in this thread:

Whenever windows launches, I can't seem to route my spotify audio through to the Virtual Cable. Instead, I need to toggle the output back to "Default" then over to "VB-Cable" again before it works.
Trying to play any audio through spotify will return an error.
I've attached some screenshots of the set up:
